Privacy policy
The short version: we collect as little as possible, never sell anything, and tell you exactly what we keep.
Last updated: 20 May 2026
The short version
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not run advertising on betterbom.com.au.
- We do not require an account to use the site.
- If you opt in to push alerts, we keep an encrypted subscription endpoint and a polygon describing your area of interest — nothing else.
- Anonymous analytics (Vercel Speed Insights) measure page performance only; no IP-level tracking.
What we collect
Page visits
Vercel's edge logs record request URLs, response times, and a country-level IP geolocation for performance monitoring. We do not store full IP addresses and we never join these logs with any other dataset.
Saved locations
When you save a location on betterbom, the locality slug is stored in your browser's localStorage. Nothing about your saved locations leaves your device.
Push alert subscriptions
When you opt in to severe-weather push notifications, your browser provides a unique push endpoint (a URL at Mozilla, Apple, or Google's push service). We store this endpoint encrypted at rest, alongside a polygon describing the geographic area you want alerts for. We don't store your name, email, or any other identifier with this subscription.
You can revoke push permission at any time in your browser settings; the subscription becomes invalid and we drop it from our database within 24 hours.
Where it's stored
All operational data lives on Neon Postgres in the Sydney (ap-southeast-2) region. Backups are encrypted and stored in the same region.
Australian Privacy Act
betterbom complies with the Australian Privacy Principles. You have the right to request a copy of any personal data we hold about you, or its deletion, by emailing privacy@betterbom.com.au.
